IPMAT vs CAT: Which Should a Class 12 Student Target?

MatIQ Faculty·

If you're in Class 11 or 12 and already thinking about a management career, IPMAT (Indore or Rohtak) lets you enter a 5-year integrated programme straight after school — skipping the "graduate first, then prepare for CAT" sequence entirely.

Choose IPMAT if:

  • You're certain about management as a career direction before graduation.
  • You want a head start on the case-study and quant rigor CAT will later test.
  • You're comfortable with an intensive second-stage WAT/PI process (Indore) or DILR-inclusive pattern (Rohtak).

Choose to prepare for CAT later instead if:

  • You want to keep your undergraduate options open across disciplines.
  • You'd rather build work or academic experience before committing to management.

The good news: quant fundamentals and reading comprehension built for IPMAT carry forward directly into CAT prep years later. A MatIQ Foundation-tier student rarely starts from zero when they return for a CAT batch after graduation — the section fundamentals transfer.
